The lights go down, and you hear the first few notes of what will develop into the quintessential sound track for one of the best of breed Epic Movies of all time, Braveheart. Braveheart’s moving score was composed by James Horner who has made a career doing epic scores in Hollywood. If you have witnessed an epic movie, you have heard a James Horner score, one his most recent being King Kong. It is true that much of the power of a motion picture is derived from a successful score that seamlessly meshes with the picture and provides an emotional blueprint for the audience to decode the film ad go with the filmmaker on the Journey. Braveheart’s Music was recorded in England using a full symphonic orchestra, and features the use of various Scottish instruments to lend a feeling of authenticity. The Soundtrack is also available at retail stores, and online for those interested in owning a nice recording of the music.
The name James Horner has become almost synonymous with epic films of the 90’s. James Horner, the composer for Braveheart, is credited with Apollo 13 and Legends of the fall. If you see an epic movie in the 90’s you are probably listening to a James Horner score. Regardless, many consider the Braveheart Music to be incredibly moving, and due to the films popularity, the score is very recognizable as both very Romantic, and very tragic. In many ways it has yet to be surpassed, but it’s a tall order when you are up against a film as well crafted as Braveheart!
